Annual national competition aims to strengthen safety knowledge, professional competence and workplace safety culture across Zambia
The African Safety, Health and Environmental Professional Association (ASHEPA) has officially launched the Annual Zambia Occupational Health and Safety National Quiz 2026.
The national competition is designed to promote occupational health and safety education, strengthen professional competence and encourage a sustainable culture of workplace safety and prevention across Zambia.
The quiz will be organised annually, bringing together health and safety professionals, industry practitioners and undergraduate students to test and improve their knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, workplace risk management and professional practice.
The programme forms part of ASHEPA’s commitment to continuous professional development, youth engagement and the promotion of effective safety practices in workplaces, educational institutions and communities.
Participation Categories
The Annual Zambia Occupational Health and Safety National Quiz will have two participation categories:
1. HSE Professionals
This category is open to occupational health and safety professionals, HSE practitioners, supervisors, consultants and industry experts involved in workplace health, safety and environmental management.
2. Undergraduate Students
This category is open to undergraduate students studying occupational health and safety or other related programmes at recognised universities and higher education institutions.
The two categories will provide an inclusive national platform for experienced professionals and emerging safety practitioners to demonstrate their knowledge, develop their competence and receive national recognition.
Competition Format
The competition will begin with an online national stage, allowing eligible participants from across Zambia to participate.
Registered participants will receive study and learning materials before the online quiz. The materials will support their preparation and strengthen their understanding of the occupational health and safety subjects covered in the competition.
Following the online national round, the top five participants from each category will qualify for the in-person national final.
The selected finalists will compete live for the top positions, prizes and national recognition.

Participants are encouraged to register early and allow sufficient time to review the learning materials before the online national quiz.
Recognition for Participants
Certificates of participation will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete the national quiz.
Finalists and top-performing participants will receive additional recognition for their achievements during the competition.
The annual programme is expected to encourage continuous learning, professional development, academic excellence and increased awareness of the importance of occupational health and safety in Zambia’s national development.
Building a Safer Zambia Through Knowledge
Workplace incidents, occupational illnesses and unsafe working conditions can often be prevented when workers, supervisors and organisations have the appropriate knowledge and consistently apply effective safety practices.
Through the Annual Zambia Occupational Health and Safety National Quiz, ASHEPA seeks to make safety education more engaging, accessible and relevant to professionals and students across the country.
The programme will also give participants an opportunity to assess their knowledge, identify areas for further development and connect with Zambia’s wider occupational health and safety community.
